"We learn from the customers we serve," is the first commandment of Swiss-based global automation company, Endress+Hauser. The company will be putting this philosophy into action with two Australian Mining Automation Forums late February 2008 in Brisbane and Perth. The core focus will be on sensing technology for grinding and milling to wet processing, leaching and tailings separation.
In recent years, Endress+Hauser's product and service portfolio has become truly global allowing its Australian engineers and customers to draw upon the company's considerable research and design resources. A high-level international and Australian mining industry management team from Endress+Hauser will participate and seek input and suggestions for developing mining automation products.
A recent example of such customer-led development is the FMM50. When Endress+Hauser asked its mining customers about the major process problems they face, high on their priority list was the ability to accurately and reliably monitor the "bed level" and "bed mass" in the tailings thickening process - and in the other thickening processes, because if these could be measured, the efficiency of the thickeners could be improved. In response, Endress+Hauser engineers developed a new, heavy-duty buoyancy electromechanical system called the FMM50. It uses an electronically controlled motor that is easily adjusted for high sensitivity detection to avoid misreading on gradient sludge blankets. The use of 316 stainless steel tape instead of rope, together with four tape wipers guarantees the reliability and longevity of the design. Not surprisingly, the FMM50 has been very well received globally and in Australia.
In May 2007, Endress+Hauser hosted similar forums overseas and the experiences from Canada and South Africa will be reviewed. Participants will also be offered a look at several new Endress+Hauser product developments. But it is not just about "High Tech". Cost optimisation is the driving force behind automation and "Right Tech" will feature prominently on the agenda.
Unlike others in the field that solely develop systems architecture and then outsource their instrumentation, Endress+Hauser take a hands-on approach working closely with clients to design their instrumentation around the process systems. This provides radically enhanced process solutions backed by the company's core service of monitoring, measuring and managing process automation - a skill-set which has been developed over the last fifty years.
These Forums will be open to all companies involved in mining automation in Australia.
The venues and dates are: 22 February 2008 at Brisbane Technology Park Conference Centre, Eight Mile Plains and 29 February 2008 at Perth Convention Centre, Mounts Bay Road.
